For this Data Dive, we ask that participants look at the Global Fire Use Survey Dataset before the workshop. The Global Fire Use Survey dataset includes over 300 responses to a survey about human fire use that was filled out by fire practitioners and academics around the world. Respondents answered questions (mostly categorical) about reasons for burning, seasonality of burning and fire governance for a pre-determined set of regions of the world (these regions were delimited by combining country boundaries with the WWF’s biome classification). The regions spanned by the survey responses account for just over half of the Earth’s ice-free land mass.
